The Myth of “Fixing” People

One of the most common misconceptions I hear about coaching is that it’s about “fixing” people or telling them how to reach success. But the truth is: people aren’t broken, and coaching isn’t about offering solutions. Coaching is about empowering individuals to explore and to find their own answers and in doing so, reconnect with their personal power.

There’s something deeply human and healing about being heard without interruption. About being asked “What do you want?” rather than being told what you should do. That moment of agency the shift from passive to proactive is where transformation begins.

The Ripple Effect of Coaching
What makes coaching so powerful is not just what happens during the session, but what happens afterwards. What I call the ripple effect.

When a leader gains insight into their communication style, their entire team benefits. When a parent becomes more self-aware and intentional, the whole family dynamic can shift. When someone struggling with imposter syndrome begins to believe in their worth, they start showing up in their career and their life in a completely different way.

That’s the magic of coaching. The growth we facilitate in one person often touches many more.

The other important part is the coach isn’t the expert in the client’s world. We don’t need to know their profession, their industry, or their personal story in detail. What we do need is the ability to create psychological safety, to hold space without judgment, and trust the coaching process to unfold.
